Changa Safari Camp

CHANGA SAFARI CAMP is located in the famed Matusadona National Park – Kariba. This newly constructed Safari Camp enjoys a private concession area within the Park and boasts nearly 4,5 kilometres of Lakeshore frontage. The East African Styled luxury tents are private and exclusive with panoramic views of the rugged Matusadona Mountains. 4 Deluxe East African Style Tents sleep a maximum of 8 adults.

This rich wilderness area offers exceptional game drives as well as walking and fishing safaris, all in the company of highly trained professional guides. Healthy populations of predators, including lion, leopard, hyena and cheetah as well as elephant, buffalo and antelope frequent the shoreline. Hippos and crocodiles are abundant in the cool waters. If you are very lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the last remaining Black Rhinos. Birdlife is prolific, with 350 species having been identified in the area.

The atmosphere of the camp itself lends to total relaxation so an afternoon by the pool sipping cocktails or drinking a cup of tea are always a welcome respite. Listen carefully for the strident call of the iconic African fish eagle and enjoy the unequalled beauty of a Lake Kariba sunset.

Things to do at Changa Safari Lodge

At Changa, we endeavour to provide an exclusive, tailor made experience to suit you individually. Where possible we are happy to plan days and activities around you.

Walking Safari

Arguably the best way to experience and feel in touch with the African bush. Our professional guides have a thorough knowledge of the area and, accompanied by them, you can experience Matusadona 'at its best'. Walks are conducted in the early mornings and late afternoons for your comfort.

 Fishing Safari

Kariba is a fisherman’s paradise! Why not try your hand at fighting the renowned Tiger Fish for which people from all over the world return time and time again to catch. Alternatively bream fishing is always a pleasure and one's daily catch can be returned to you 'a la' snacks.

Game Drive

A leisurely drive in an open safari vehicle is a perfect way to discover the area, and provides an opportunity to see a wider variety of game and scenery as you cover much more ground than on a game walk. Accompanied by your guide, a game drive is a lovely way to spend the morning.

Bird  Watching/Boating

Climb on board our pontoon boat and, together with our guide, you can explore the multitude of bays and river inlets where the birdlife is prolific and elephants and antelope abound.

Wildlife in Matusadona National Park

The Matusadona National Park consists of some 338000 acres of unspoiled and unfenced splendor.  Rugged mountains, springs and streams, Miomba woodlands and Mopane scrublands, pristine riverine vegetation, crystal clear lake water and grass flanked shoreline all combine to create a unique habitat for healthy populations of African mammals.  Many of these animals owe their existence to Operation Noah, a historic animal rescue exercise launched soon after the completion of the Dam wall and resultant flooding of that part of the Zambezi Valley.

Elephants, who have adapted to a semi aquatic lifestyle, frequent the shoreline as do numerous species of antelope, their feeding patterns governed by the ever changing lake levels. Lion, leopard, hyena and cheetah occur in good numbers and a small, but very important population of the endangered black rhino roam the park. The birdlife is prolific with in excess of 350 species having been identified in the Park. Of particular interest are the many different species of water fowl seen busying the shoreline or perched on one of the putrefied and partially submerged trees that have stood since the creation of the lake some 50 years ago. These airy trees, remnants of great hardwood forests, provide homes for bats and insects, vantage points and nesting sites for fish eagles, darters, cormorants and king fishers. It is truly a 'WATER WILDERNESS'.
