The Hide Safari Lodge

Set in Zimbabwe's flagship Hwange National Park, The Hide is a luxury safari camp with beautiful tented suites overlooking a much frequented waterhole. Hwange was once the royal hunting ground of the local Ndebele kings and has long been known for its abundant and diverse wildlife.

The Hide is a small owner-run-and-managed tented camp located in a private concession adjacent to the north eastern sector of Hwange National Park. The camp itself sits among acacia woodland overlooking an old riverbed to a waterhole that regularly attracts elephants, giraffes and kudu, while lions and wild dogs also make sporadic appearances. Ten large, spacious A-frame tented chalets are classically styled with a contemporary twist. Cream walls, rugs, and bed linen are complemented by the dark wood bed, writing desk and luggage storage racks, all of which make for a fairly simple yet comfortable stay. There is a small plunge pool and deck area located to the main dining areas with a communal fire pit set back from the front of the camp. Meals at the Hide are very relaxed with imaginative African lunches and dinners served communally around an impressive teak table. Breakfasts are eaten alfresco and are cooked on the fire.

Room Types

All tents have en suite bathrooms, with a large indoor bath and outdoor shower, are mosquito proofed and have full mains electricity. Activities include professionally guided walks, day and night game drives, ‘hide’ sits, sleep-outs at the romantic Dove’s Nest.

Game Drives

Morning and afternoon game drives as well as night drives with a spotlight are offered at The Hide Safari Camp. Days can be spent further afield on game drives in search of predators and prey alike. We like to do things properly so sundowners are an important part of the experience. Enjoy the natural beauty with a cold drink in hand. The guides at The Hide are very much part of the family and have been with us for many years. They have undergone some of the most rigorous training in Africa and their passion for and knowledge of the bush is often what makes a safaris so special.

Tom's Little Hide activities

Activities/excursions offered are: morning and afternoon guided walks (no under 16 on walks), morning and afternoon game drives; night drives with a spotlight, „hide sits‟ around pans and full day excursions. An overnight sleep-out in the “Dove‟s Nest” tree house for 2 people can be arranged.

Guided Walks

Morning and afternoon guided walks are offered at The Hide Safari Camp.

The Hide Safari Camp is fortunate to have the best of both worlds. While located within the Hwange National Park, it is also surrounded by a private concession which allows us to offer activities not otherwise permitted. Hwange is a vast playground worth exploring so you don’t have to worry about being bored. Early morning walks are there for the thrill of encountering wildlife on its own terms and exploring the little surprises of the bush.

The Hide Safari Camp's Wildlife

There are a number of shallow pans spread throughout the Park, around which wildlife congregates, making for excellent and reliable game viewing. During summer plains game migrate onto the plains, closely followed by their predators. Elephant, buffalo, sable, roan, southern giraffe, blue wildebeest, impala and sometimes even gemsbok (oryx) can be seen here. This Park is one of the best for predators - lion, leopard, wild dog and cheetah are regularly sighted, along with the smaller African wildcat, serval, honey badger, civet and spotted hyaena.
