Chengeta Safari Lodge is situated at the foot of a granite kopje amidst indigenous trees and a tropical landscaped garden with wildlife roaming through the gardens, guests can enjoy a memorable and restful stay with us. Things to do at Chengeta Safari Lodge
A large range of activities within the reserves are available.
Canoeing
Canoeing can be experienced on both the Serui within Pamuzinda or the Chimbo river at Chengeta as well as a large dam on the outskirts of the Chengeta reserve. We also have a pontoon boat powered by a silent battery driven bass motor for a more sedate cruise with friends along the Serui within Pamuzinda.
For those looking to get some exercise whilst on vacation, early morning or evening bush walks can be arranged with any one of our experienced guides.
Game drives
Game drives in open game drive vehicles are generally taken both morning and evening and a prearranged picnic lunch out in the bush can be arranged. For those staying with us for more than 1 day, drives can be taken within both reserves. Night drives are also available to view the nocturnal animals and birds of the southern African bush, these normally start after dinner and you are generally out for an hour.
Clay Pigeon
And for those of you who have never tried it before, clay pigeon shooting can be exhilarating in the company of an experienced shooter. Shots can be taken at fast-moving clays from up to 6 traps, with the activity being charged according to the number of shots (minimum 10 shots per gun, and minimum of four participants). Due to the manpower involved, clay pigeon shooting must be booked 24 hours in advance.
Elephant rides and Interactions
Pamuzinda also host elephant rides and interactions, although guests staying at Chengeta are more than welcome to take part: for those new to this, it is a truly magical and moving experience. The adults, Boxer and Shorty, are now in their early 30’s, and were rescued as calves from the culls in the ‘80s; they have been together ever since.
Wildlife at Chengeta Safari Lodge
Chengeta and Pamuzinda’s two reserves boast over 45 mammal species, ranging from four of the Big Five – soon to be all five – to plains game, including giraffe, tsessebe, zebra, eland and wildebeest, through to the smaller game such as duiker, oribi, vervet monkeys and short-clawed otters. There are good concentrations of nocturnal species as well, such as civets, porcupines, aardvarks, and the very elusive aardwolf – or “maanhaar jackal”, related to the hyena – which also eats termites like the aardvark.
Zimbabwe boasts a spectacular array of birdlife, and we are proud to say that between the two parks, we are home to approximately 350 species of bird, from the tiny southern masked weaver through to the larger species; the crowned eagle and the African fish eagle are resident and breeding, as is the rarer African finfoot. It is a popular destination with the Zimbabwe and International Birdlife members.
