Inn on the Vumba is located on top of hills overlooking the border between Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Although only a short drive from the city of Mutare, the inn's location in the Vumba mountains provides stunning views and scenery in a peacefully relaxed setting. The inn features four two-bedroom cottages and 18 suites located in two separate blocks equipped with en suite facilities and a simple rural country decor. Rooms do not feature satellite television, internet or telephone access, with the emphasis instead on peace and relaxation. The inn's restaurant is known for its Table d'Hote dinners and a la carte lunches, while there are also two lounges, a cocktail bar and a swimming pool.

It is also en route to the Chimanimani Mountains, Hot Springs, Great Zimbabwe and the South-East Lowveld. This was the first Inn opened in July 1991. The Inn is a convenient place to stay for businessmen and holiday travellers passing to and from Mozambique.

The Inn features four 2-bedroomed cottages as well as 18 suites in two blocks reaching north and south of the central area. The central area consists of a two lounges, a restaurant and a cocktail bar with well appointed decor.

Facilities and Amenities 

The central area consists of a two lounges, a restaurant and a cocktail bar with well appointed decor.The Inn has become well known for its fine Table d'Hôte dinner and Á La Carte lunch. There is also a swimming pool in the garden.

Restaurant 

Start your day off with a veritable feast of fresh fruits, pastries, cold meats and hot dishes. Breakfast is served from 6.30am, so it's the ideal venue for our business travellers and is served until 10am for guests looking for a hearty meal before they head off for a day of exploration. It is open at lunchtimes when there are group bookings and is also open for dinner on special occasions. The dishes are varied and the popular buffet offers choice and quality at very competitive rates. Choose from the carvery of the day, fresh salad bar, assorted grills and his wide variety of deserts.

Things to do

We have several acres of garden with a swimming pool and a rough croquet lawn.The trees attract a huge variety of bird life, as well as monkeys, particularly the Bvumba's well-known Samangos.Walks in the garden are rewarding for guests interested in the wonders of nature; a stream passes through the grounds, providing the surrounds with a fresh, country feel.

The Bvumba Botanic Gardens

The Bvumba Botanic Gardens which is well worth a visit. The altitude of the 30 hectares of botanical gardens allows a wide variety of indigenous and exotic plants to be grown. Azaleas, fuchsias and hydrangeas are particularly abundant. This little hotel is midway between Hillside Club in Mutare and Leopard Rock Hotel - both good 18 hole courses.

 

 

The Essex and Burma Valleys

There are beautiful drives in the area, particularly the circular drive around the Essex and Burma Valleys - where coffee and banana plantations provide contrasts to the natural vegetation. Castle Beacon and Chinyankwaremba are both 15-minute climbs from the main road and both give even more spectacular views. Trips into Mutare, where museums, gardens, shops and the Cecil Kop Game Reserve are popular.

 

 

Vumba Heights 

Mutare Museum has an interesting collection of cars going back to the beginning of the Century, as well as an aviary and other exhibits. They often have art exhibitions as well. Cecil Kop Game Park which was set up for educational and ecological reasons and is run by the Wild Life Society. Castle Beacon is approached from the Vumba Heights gateway and, from the rocky summit, Birchenough Bridge can be seen clearly. It is said that the Indian Ocean can be seen at dawn on a particularly clear day.
