Makalolo plains Camp Classic Camp Makalolo Plains looks out on a panorama of wildlife drawn to its waterhole, from thousands of elephant and buffalo to lion or hyaena coming to quench their thirst. About Makalolo Plains Camp The camp is built on raised teak decks and boardwalks, providing views over Samavundhla Pan and floodplain with its excellent wildlife concentrations. Accommodation consists of nine large, comfortable tented rooms (including a family room) with en-suite facilities as well as an outdoor shower. The raised spacious main area has a lounge, pub, plunge pool and dining area where delicious meals are served. Environment and Wildlife Makalolo Plains is scenically situated in the south-east corner of Hwange, an area known for its wonderful array of wildlife, particularly massive herds of elephant and buffalo. Summer sees large antelope herds migrate onto the plains, closely followed by their predators, while in winter the area’s large number of waterholes attracts game in both quantity and variety. Bird life in the area is prolific and varied, with species frequenting miombo woodland as well as those of the Kalahari being present.

Wildlife at Makalolo Plains Camp
There are a number of shallow pans spread throughout the Park, around which wildlife congregates, making for excellent and reliable game viewing. During summer plains game migrate onto the plains, closely followed by their predators. Elephant, buffalo, sable, roan, southern giraffe, blue wildebeest, impala and sometimes even gemsbok (oryx) can be seen here. This Park is one of the best for predators - lion, leopard, wild dog and cheetah are regularly sighted, along with the smaller African wildcat, serval, honey badger, civet and spotted hyaena.
