Spurwing Island is situated on Lake Kariba in the middle of one of Africa’s most spectacular lakes, overlooked by the majestic Matusadona Mountains, Lake Kariba accommodation at Spurwing Island Lodge is the perfect place for a tranquil getaway for the wildlife enthusiast, serious fisherman and holiday maker alike.
“It’s a relaxed family spot with no airs or graces. The whole feel of Spurwing Island Lodge is down to earth and relaxed. The dining room is open to the breeze, the pool is nice and big for the children, the bar area is generous and the location is well shaded. Spurwing Island Lodge is also very popular as a fishing base, because it’s close to the bream rich coves of the former Sanyati forest.
Room Types
Spurwing Island is able to cater for a maximum of forty adult guests in three different styles of accommodation. However for special events more guests can be accommodated with prior arrangement. All rooms have scenic views over Lake Kariba and the Matusadona mountains, with a 'sit for hours' veranda with outside chairs. Insect spray, mosquito nets and repellents are provided in the rooms.

Chalets are stone under thatch with French doors which open out onto a veranda.

Under thatch with stone floors. Enclosed with two zip entrances - one onto a small veranda and the other into an en-suite bathroom. Two of the tents form a "double tent" which can be used as a family tent.

THINGS TO DO AT SPURWING ISLAND
Situated in the Matusadona National Park, Spurwing Island is ideally situated to offer a wide range of game viewing activities. Game viewing options incorporate both the water (by boat) and land (by foot and by vehicle) to ensure that our guests have access to some of the finest game and bird viewing in the country.
Game drives
Conducted in purpose built comfortable Land Rovers. Each vehicle can take 7 guests. The game drives leave from Spurwing Island by boat which transfer the guests to the Matusadona National Park mainland where they then board the vehicles for the game drive.
Fishing Trips
Fishing is a popular sport at Kariba and Spurwing Island offers tackle and an experienced coxswain for those who want to try their hand. Fishing trips are offered on a half day basis - departing early morning arriving back in time for lunch, or alternatively departing after lunch arriving back just after sunset.
The Tiger Fish, a fierce fighting fresh-water game fish, offers a thrill to those who manage to land them. The Kariba Bream, which is an excellent eating fish, is a challenge to the keen fisherman.
WILDLIFE IN MATUSADONHA NATIONAL PARK
Situated in the Matusadona National Park, Spurwing Island is ideally situated to offer a wide range of game viewing activities. Game viewing options incorporate both the water (by boat) and land (by foot and by vehicle) to ensure that our guests have access to some of the finest game and bird viewing in the country.
Hosts a good population of all large predators such as lions, cheetah and leopard, making the sighting of these large predators a regular and exciting experience. Is an intensive protection zone for the endangered black rhino and fortunate sightings are made of these rare animals on foot and by vehicle.
Resident in the park are good elephant populations always present on the lake shore. Also numbers of other large animals such as hippo, buffalo, crocodile, impala, kudu, waterbuck, zebra and baboon occur. Linked with these are a host of smaller animal and over 400 bird species.
